Snow, and lots of it. Everywhere Kat looked, fresh snow glittered in the early afternoon light. Where the sunlight hit, individual crystals seemed more like tiny multi-colored gems rather than snow.
Currently she was sitting in a chair tucked underneath an oak tree, an e-reader resting her her lap. People might think her crazy for wanting to read outside with the current weather, but to her it was the perfect time. She loved snow. It was stunningly beautiful to look at, and it was one of the few things that brought the pack compound almost to a halt. Point in case, her tracks were one of the few marring the white expanse. Most wolves were inside, staying out of the weather. And, of course, so were the slaves.
Slaves. The word hung thick and unpleasant in Kat's mind. It wasn't right; not at all. What gave the wolves and bloodsuckers the right to say they were better than the humans? To kill and enslave them? Sure, they lived a hell of a lot longer, and were stronger, faster, and healed quicker... but mentally, emotionally, and psychologically, they were all the same. No smarter or dumber, but equals.
She sighed, her elation at the snow dissipating. She didn't like it one bit, but nor was there anything she could do except to ease the life of the humans living here and try to help them out quietly when it was possible. Other than that? She didn't have the money to move elsewhere, and she wasn't stupid enough to think that the Fengari wouldn't kill her if need be. No, she definitely knew how ruthless her packmates could be.
There was no use thinking about that right now though. Just enjoy the moment. Even though her breath fogged up the air, condensing into ice crystals the moment the breaths left her mouth, she wasn't cold. Looking down at her clothing, her mouth quirked. No, she definitely wasn't cold. Two layers of pants - thermals that were meant to keep you warm, overlain by jeans. Two shirts underneath her big fluffy jacket (which blended quite nicely in with her surroundings). Thick boots, gloves, hat, scarf... yep, she was decked out for the weather.
Picking up the e-reader again, Kat flicked the on switch and navigated to her current book. With the serene quiet around, it wasn't long until she was lost in the story.
((I hope it's okay. I wasn't sure how to end it, so I just left it open as to how Gabriel enters. xD))

Gabriel Alexander Harper Werewolf Heartless Son of a Bitch Gabe hated the snow, it was tiny little specks of death flying to the ground. He remembered back in the day when he was a mercenary. He would go off to Africa, the Middle East, anywhere it was nice and hot and fight battles. He loved warm weather, the hot sun, everything. This snow bullshit had to go somewhere with itself cause Gabriel Harper wasn’t having it.
He tugged his jacket closer to his body and pulled his pack of cigarettes out from the pocket. Just a quick smoke, some fresh air and then head back in to see what Anders so desperately needed to talk about. His slaves were sleeping, most of them getting on his nerves at the moment. Probably why he was so desperate for his nicotine. He put the white stick between his lips, and patted his pockets for his lighter. Where the fuck was that thing? If someone in the pack took it again he would be pissed.
In his inside pocket was his little silver lighter, ah yes. He lit his cigarette and took a deep breath of the fiery smoke. Fuck that felt good. He blew it out, watching his grey smoke mix with the white death. His black hair was sticking up in all directions, despite his best efforts to keep it somewhat tame. He wore simple black jeans, a black v-neck with his chest piece tattoo (defiant to the end in fancy script) showing from the base of the v, his DC sneakers and a thin jacket to brace himself against the cold. Not exactly his best idea.
There was a rather pretty girl, one of the newer additions to the pack. Name, uh, she was- Kat! That was it, he smirked when he thought of how the lewd way he remembered her name. He took another drag from his cigarette and walked through the snowy courtyard to where she was sitting. He took the stick from his mouth and smiled at her. “Interesting place to sit and read, don’t you think?” His smile was charming and his tone was light, very different from how he behaved around the humans. Kat was on his level though, she was a wolf like him.
She looked so warm all bundled up, if only Gabe thought that far ahead, nope, he figured he would just smoke and then head back inside. “Anything good?” He motioned to her eReader and thought how amazed everyone was when they first came out, he had been stationed in Egypt for several months, apparently the news of the electronic reader passed him, so when he returned to New York City, it seemed like everyone was carrying around a tablet with books on it. Saved him a lot of space in his bag, so that was helpful.
He took another drag from his cigarette and stood next to her, waiting for her to add to their conversation. He had been meaning to get to know the girl, might as well start now.
